Make Learning Joyful with Alphabet Games for Kindergarten

Learning can be great fun for children. Children naturally love to embrace new experiences and enjoy being challenged.

Learning to read, spell, and write can open a new world of enrichment for them. When mixed with fun, learning is not just more enjoyable but also much more effective.

At SplashLearn, we have found unique ways to experiment with alphabet games for kindergartners.

Fun Ways to Teach Letters with Interactive Letter Games for Kindergarten

This is the stage where letters - capital and small, and letter sounds are introduced to children. It is a process that may take a while and require a lot of repetition and practice. By introducing a little fun and challenge, you can make learning letters a breeze.

  • Monster Grab: This is a fun way to build your child’ recognition of letters. Make your child wear a sock on their hand. Lay out alphabet cut-outs on the table, and call out letters randomly. The monster (sock) must open its mouth (the child’s hand) and gobble the letter called. Each time they pick a letter, discuss its sound so your child can build their familiarity with various sounds as well.
  • Pipe letters: This is probably too early a stage for your child to be writing out letters. To help them work on letter patterns and formations, get your child to bend pipe cleaners into the letter’s shape. This will help them observe letter shapes clearly, build associations, and develop creativity and problem-solving capabilities on the side.
  • Type me out: Children love imitating their parents and teachers. Now that they watch them on the laptop for a large part of the day let them feel like a computer whiz too! Call out the letter and have them pick it out on the keyboard. Show them the screen as the letter appears. Cheer on their success.
  • Bathing pods: Children love water-play. Make bath-time an exciting adventure. Drop some foam letters into the water, and give your child a tiny bowl or pail. You can play this game in two ways. Get them to fish only one letter out at a time using the bowl. Each time they pick one, they call out the letter. Every letter identified correctly becomes theirs. A wrong letter goes back into the tub. Another way to play this game is to call out a letter and ask your child to use the bowl to scoop out the letter called.

Teach Your Kindergartener Letters Sounds and Letter Recognition With Fun Letter Learning Games

Kindergartners have boundless energy and short attention spans. They prefer doing things which involve running around to sitting and learning. The best way to get them to learn is to use their own preferred methods.

You can teach them in the garden, the bath, and even when you go out. Avoid making learning mundane and regimented, or they may start to resent the process. The moment your child feels that learning is a part of having fun, they will be more willing to partner with you.

Encourage Independent Learning with Interruption Free Alphabet Learning Games for Kindergartners

It is critical to create a nurturing environment for kindergartners as they learn. Much as they are excited to learn, they are as keen to please too. Keeping in mind these little tips will help keep the fun alive:

  • Always motivate your learner. Children are very sensitive, and a small word of discouragement can do a lot of damage to their confidence.
  • Start with what they know. Do not be rigid about what is required at this grade, but look at the stage of learning the child is at.
  • Take it really slow. Children at this age can feel overwhelmed quickly and not know how to show it. It may lead to a disinterest in learning with time.
  • Not every day is a good day. Your children may pick up really well on one day and be very slow the next. On some days, they might have even undone all the work you did. Don’t lose hope or pressure your child. Remember that they are doing their best.
